Feel free to message or email us any and all additional questions.
The GPC is a start up dedicated to bringing to market the first and so far only piano that will be built with total dedication to using environmentally sound, parts, materials, and construction techniques.
The simple answer is they have not had to. They are already selling tens of thousands of pianos a year without any competition from an eco-friendly instrument. Therefore, there is no incentive to change anything. They would have to make massive changes in materials sourcing, design, and manufacturing techniques and processes which would be very costly to do so.
We are starting the green piano from scratch, we do not have to revamp and redo all of the things mentioned above at a very high expense and disrupting normal operations to do so. Having no pre-existing facilities to reconfigure, replace, or revamp will allow us to use all new site assets for crafting the instruments in a more cost effective, green, and up to date way.
No, they will have retail prices at or lower than the most asked for piano brands in the US.
That is an easy question to address because we have done extensive due diligence research before taking this on, however the answer comes in three parts:
The piano retailers: In January of 2020 we attended the largest music instrument trade show in the world (NAMM) and spoke to well over a hundred & fifty piano retailers from all over North America. We explained our initiative and asked for their thoughts. Almost 100% enthusiastically endorsed the pianos and said they would very much consider selling them as it would definitely fill a need, create a new market, and increase their business!
Piano teachers, performers, and students: We have been reaching out to them by telephone, social media, and attending music teacher conventions and other events. The vast majority said that as long as the green instruments performed as well as the traditionally designed instruments, they would prefer the green version.
Piano makers and distributors: They will not be happy for the success of TGPC for two reasons. 1. They will have to change numerous things to compete and we will have a head start. 2. We have projected a potential take over of thirty percent of the market due to a vastly growing group of consumers who, when all things are equal, will buy green. Some states and locals have a "buy green" mandate, we will have no competition at all in those places. We will aggressively go after this market.
The founder and the force behind The Green Piano is Joseph DeFio a 50+ year veteran of all aspects of the piano industry and a pro musician. Second in command is Joanna Ruiz, a very talented forward thinking Millennial who has been working with Joe on other successful projects for the past 6 years. The rest of the team is an incredibly talented group of individuals with nearly 200 Years of collective experience in piano design, manufacturing, rebuilding, marketing, and administration.
Before starting TGPC we had already contacted a great deal of people who are already involved with the eco community and everyone gave us a very hearty endorsement for pursuing it.
Their strong encouragement for the project to move ahead was a great motivator and is a harbinger of success.
We have already established ways to use easily renewable materials such as bamboo, recycled materials, new "no spray "cabinet finish, new manufacturing techniques, and proprietary materials and techniques that will remain proprietary secrets. In addition we are in extensive consultation with other eco based manufacturers and suppliers that are already making similar hard goods. They gave us strong encouragement for the project to move ahead.
Realistically we can have a prototype finished in 16-18 months and units ready for sale in 24- 30 months. Depending on pre-sales and other funding.
Pre-sales of the instruments will be available in accordance with all ordinances pertaining to them, the details are still to be determined.
In any case there will be with a large incentive extended to those customers who pre order instruments.
We will start production of uprights and make them available to the public. Shortly after that we will move into the process of implementing similar processes for making grand pianos.
